And then in season two she’s forced to grab her own thigh because something in the regeneration told Tennant to keep his hands off…

Yeah but here’s the real change between 2005 and 2006: Rose is behind the Ninth Doctor; he’s protecting her as she’s all new to this. And then she’s in the front, before the Tenth Doctor; she’s ready for adventures, she’s in the first line. Character development.
And between these pictures, she’s the only one who gets placed before the Doctor as well.

Seriously, I can completely imagine Rose being like totally kickass and almost taking the Doctors hand and leading him places instead of the other way around. Out of all the companions, I think she has the best capacity for learning how to do it (she kind of does during Turn Left). I kind of hope that for the 50th we get to see Rose all space-n-time-knowledgeable like on par with the Meta-crisis doctor. That would be swell.
